Behind the Name of Taroko Gorge

Located near Taiwan’s east coast, Taroko Gorge attracts people to come because of its impressive long canyon. It has an area named Taroko George National Park too. The name of Taroko means splendid and magnificent. The language of Taroko is taken from Truku, which is the aboriginal tribe. Established on November 28, 1986, this place was the environmental protection movement in Taiwan. The natural resources were in damage. Therefore, the public and government agencies realize to make something to protect them. The aim of the park is to protect the relics and wildlife, natural scenery, to facilitate scientific research, conserve natural resources, and to promote environmental education.

Taroko Gorge is famous for its amazing relief. You can travel from the rug coastal cliffs and walk down to a maze of the subtropical forested canyon. Keep to walk in high elevation and seeing the forests. Take a step to see the tallest peaks in Taiwan. It is over 3400 meters which very amazing. Geologically, the valleys and narrow canyons collaborate to create the deepest marble canyon in the world.

You can see 144 species of birds here. Bout 10% of them are indigenous to Taiwan. There are also more than 30 large species of mammals there. There are bear, deer, and boar. You could see 32 species of reptile and 18 species of fish. However, they are in the rugged terrain of the park. Visiting Taroko Gorge should b in the right season. The average temperature in the park is from 14 degree Celsius in January and 27 degrees Celsius in July. It will be cooler in higher elevation. In winter, it is 5.5 degrees Celsius and 17.5 degrees Celsius in the summer. Keep checking the weather before you go.

You can visit Hualien from this park. It is the nearest major city from Taroko Gorge. Trains and flights are available. You do not need to worry about getting access to come here.  The name of this place is already famous throughout the world. In Taiwan, it becomes the most visited place.
